“A Close Shave”!

Now I know Charity Road Trips is all about… well… road trips! but I came up with an idea which has been done before but maybe not on this scale.

The Youth Cancer Trust (http://www.youthcancertrust.org/) provide holidays for teenagers and young adults suffering from Cancer throughout the UK, now when I first came up with this idea people immediately thought I had cancer because I suppose that is what happens. You get diagnosed with cancer, then suddenly it’s at the forefront of your mind, now imagine you are a teenager! Girls, pubity, exams, peergroup pressure and all you want to do is be a teenager and go to parties, try your luck with the opposite sex but your friends cant relate to you because you have cancer.

Get my point?, now most people I know still believe I’m a child ( or at least act like one ) so imagine a place that allows you to relate with people your own age with the same condition, wouldn’t that be great. Thats the Youth Cancer Trust.

So… the idea is to stage an event at Snowtrax in Christchurch, Dorset at the beginning of September 2012 which will involve as many people as possible coming together to show that losing your hair is not a big deal but if it is, you know there’s people out there who supported you. So, we are looking to create as amazing event and hopefully it will involve as many teenagers as possible and maybe we could even break a record in the process of making lots of money for this charity.

Another team makes six for this trans-european challenge to Rome this June all in aid of BBC Children in Need and five local charities to Dorset. With only 140 days to go until a sloth of Pudsey Bears in yellow spotted cars leave for Paris for the first night then onto Zurich, Lake Como, Lucca, Siena and Rome all with the Eurorally Trophy in their sights!

Another team has joined the growing number of people already on board for this unique adventure to Rome next June. Rachel Bowes and her “Pudsey” co-pilot from Harvey Bowes Mortgages advisors ( www.harveybowes.com/site ) has chosen to support Diverse Abilities along with Children in Need ( http://www.diverseabilitiesplus.org.uk/ ) who support children and young people aged 2-19 and provide a dedicated specialist day school for children, with high level teaching and nursing support as well as a wide range of short term breaks – from fully equipped residential and/or domiciliary support to fun holiday and community activities.

IFA makes seven!

Neil Hiscock, an IFA from Shaftesbury in Dorset is now the seventh member of the team heading to Tajikistan in May 2012. Instead of providing financial advice though, Neil will be grabbing a paint brush and making the school in Quergon Teppa a little brighter for the children before we head up into the mountains.

As always we are still looking for a civil engineer and anyone else who has a skill to offer is more than welcome to join the team.

Photographer joins the team!

And this makes 6 ! Dee King a Professional Photographer based in London has agreed to deliver the images on the Tajikistan trip following her return from six weeks in South America. Dee also has primary school teacher training so her talents maybe called upon to help in the kindergarten part of the school before we head of into the mountains to the ecological site.

Farrier joins the team!

Having started off as a DIY SOS type project, this event is certainly evolving, as we now welcome to the Tajikistan team, a farrier. Having already worked in Zimbabwe and Singapore Marcus will be sharing his farrriering skills with the people and children of Querghon Teppa in May next year along with the rest of the team.

We are still looking for a Civil Engineer, Hotel and Catering professional, English Teacher and Architect but if you have a skill you think would benefit the people of Tajikistan then drop us an email, Marcus did!

Tajikistan Team on BBC Radio Solent

The team so far are being interviewed by Julian Clegg on BBC Radio Solent on Monday 7th November at 7.20am. Even though the event is in May 2012 most of the work is in the planning and of course the three months of injections!. We are still looking for a Civil Engineer, English Teacher, Hotel and Catering professional and Architect to complete the team, but saying that we have had interest from a Photographer, Farrier and a Paramedic so far, so who knows what the final team will be made up of!

Good reasons for re-scheduling the EuroRally 33 until 9th June 2012

Now, the first thing you might think is the reason for re-scheduling is all negative, but you would be wrong!

Children in Need week was always the aim but the main aim was to raise a decent amount of money for some very worthy causes and to ensure that all the teams have a very unique adventure at the same time, so it’s all good why are have changed the date.

As you can imagine, organising a Trans-European adventure and liaising with three countries is not easy and after nine months of getting no-where a chance plane journey may have changed everything! On a trip to Milan I happen to be sitting next to a lady with a love for Peanut M&M’s from the British Consulate who seemed to have a similar imagination to mine. So after an hour of some random ideas which included high speed Pudseys across Lake Como to Bellagio she is now helping to make this event very unique.

Of course, you still need the yellow car and Pudsey outfit but you now have two packages – £3000 per team including accommodation and food or £1500 per team without, but both including spots for the car and team t-shirts.

We will keep you posted but sorry, we can’t tell you what’s in store for the lucky teams who join us!

WE WANT YOU! to help train orphan children new skills in Tajikistan

Following our 2010 adventure to Tajikistan, we are heading back in May 2012 and we want to take a team with us. The English school based in Querghon Teppa helps orphan children achieve scholarships in the USA or UK and provides them with a better life. The idea behind this nine day trip is to provide a range of five day courses to give the children of Tajikistan a taste of new skills whether that be Plastering, Plumbing or Vehicle Mechanics. We are also looking for three english teachers to provide teacher training to the teachers at the school. The last four days will be spent relaxing at the ecological project in the mountains with a chance to experience this countries amazing hospitality, scenery and food.

The dates are 5th-13th May 2012 with a team meeting to discuss the trip being held in January.
